Douglas Kay Band, was formed following the release of Douglas’s 2003 album Of All The Towns To Sleep In and since then the trio has played a number of notable gigs around the UK, including the T-Break Showcases and Ben & Jerry’s Sundae on the Common which also featured on the bill Billy Bragg, Scouting For Girls and Doves. The band is occasionally augmented by additional members – Chris Smallwood (saxophone) and Paul Gilbody (vocals / percussion) have played a number of shows with DKB.
The band’s album Into Your Head was released on CD, download & limited edition USB format in late 2009. It features 10 tracks penned by Kay; second track Better topped a poll of tracks by Scottish acts in the Edinburgh Evening News and also received airplay on BBC Radio. The common threads throughout the work are Martin’s sympathetic, jazz-influenced drumming, Hunter’s melodic basslines and the thoughtful, passionate lyrics of Kay which are delivered in his warm, honeyed tenor.
